UltraTax pulls client data from Practice CS. Fixed Assets CS feeds depreciation into the return. Accounting CS and Practice CS each run on SQL Server. If those pieces sit with different vendors, every update turns into a guessing game: who restarts the SQL service, and why did the data path change?
We put every CS app you license on your own private server and keep the data paths and SQL instances on the same box. FileCabinet CS or your GoFileRoom connector goes there too. One team watches all of it, so there’s no other host to blame.

No neighbors on your hardware
The server is private. Another firm’s month-end close can’t slow your Practice CS database.

Thomson Reuters has been changing parts of Virtual Office CS. If one of those changes, or a renewal quote, has you reviewing the setup, we’ll map what you run in VO today against a private server: apps, data, user count and cost, side by side.
We won’t push a move mid-season. If the timing is wrong, we’ll say so and plan for May.
How the move works
Setup and migration are included. Here’s the honest version.
- Inventory call. We list every CS app, SQL database, data path and user. Your time: 30 minutes.
- Server build. We install your licensed CS apps and SQL instances on your private server. Your time: none.
- Test run. Two of your staff open real client files and run a test return. Your time: about 1 hour.
- Cutover. We copy final data over a weekend and repoint data paths. Your time: one weekend, not an hour.
- First week. Your named team checks in daily. Your time: none.
We plan cutovers for May through August or October through December. Staff log in through a desktop app or browser, and UltraTax looks the same once they’re in.
One price for the server and the support
Private Cloud is $79 per user per month, or $72 billed annually. That covers your private server, every CS app you license, with no app-slot limits, Microsoft 365 apps on the server, MFA, backups, a named 24/7 team, the WISP template, setup and migration. No server fee, no setup fee, month to month.

UltraTax CS hosting questions
Do I need different Thomson Reuters licenses to host UltraTax CS with you?
You keep your existing CS Professional Suite licenses and keep paying Thomson Reuters directly. We host the software and don’t resell it.
Can Practice CS and Accounting CS run on the same server as UltraTax?
Yes. Each runs on its own SQL Server instance on your private server, on the same network as UltraTax, which is how the integrations expect them to be.
What about FileCabinet CS or GoFileRoom?
FileCabinet CS can be installed on your server alongside UltraTax. GoFileRoom is a web product, so we set up the connector and scanning on your server.
Who handles UltraTax updates?
Your named team applies Thomson Reuters updates after hours and checks UltraTax opens before staff log in. If an update breaks something, we call Thomson Reuters support with you rather than sending you to them.
We’re on Virtual Office CS. Is moving worth it?
Sometimes it isn’t. Bring your current VO invoice to the consultation and we’ll compare it line by line. If staying makes more sense, we’ll say so.
What if the first tax season isn’t better?
Under our first-tax-season guarantee we migrate you to any provider for free (terms in your agreement), and you get all of your data back.
